Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:
- Crystal Woody, 35, has been charged with buying handguns and selling them to minors. According to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, one of those guns was used in a shooting. One of the minors was identified on video as the person who fired a gun in the direction of a highway in November 2021. Woody is being held on $500,000 bail. (WPVI-TV)
- The tech-enabled transit startup Jawnt is partnering with SEPTA on its Key Advantage rollout for Philly employers. Jawnt, launched in 2021, aims to help Philadelphians easily access buses, bikes, subways, and trains. The Key Advantage program allows employers in Philadelphia to offer all-access SEPTA passes to their employees. Since the program rolled out in May, more than 7,500 people working at Penn Medicine, Drexel, and Wawa have signed up for the benefit. (Technical.ly)
- Three Philadelphia-area men have been charged for stealing checks from USPS mailboxes, which could amount to prison time and $1M in fines. Naod Tsegay, 22, Fode Bangoura, 20, and Zyier Williams, 19, stole or attempted to steal more than $200,000 by altering and depositing personal and business checks stolen from USPS mailboxes. Victims said their checks were never delivered after placing them in blue collection boxes. (FOX 29 Philadelphia)
