Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. Mecca Shabazz, 25, is suing Fresh Express and the Fresh Grocer grocery chain for the death of her baby after she ate their contaminated spinach. An autopsy of Shabazz's full-term baby revealed that listeria, a bacterial illness contracted from contaminated food, was the sole cause of death. Pregnant people are ten times more likely to contract listeria and it can result in stillbirth, miscarriage, or pre-term labor. (PhillyVoice.com)
  2. On Friday morning, two men were injured in a shooting outside of a convenience store in Oak Lane. The men were putting air in a tire when someone in a white SUV shot them. Both victims were rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center to treat foot and hand wounds. The SUV fled the scene and has not yet been identified. (CBS Philly)
  3. A telephone pole crashed into a house at the 4100 block of Salem Street in Frankford. Although no one was in the home at the time, around 14 customers are without power in the area. PECO intentionally cut the power for around 400 customers in the area but has returned it to most of them. Loss of power amidst the summer heat is an extra concern. (CBS Philly)
