WEST CHESTER, PA — Eighteen students and staff members from the West Chester Area School District won awards in the 6th Annual E-Poetry contest in which 150 students submitted poems on any topic with visual and audible artworks.
The winners were recently honored in a Poetry Awards ceremony held at Barnes & Noble in Exton.
The contest provided a safe platform for student poets to enhance their emotional intelligence and expression of ideas stemming from curricular topics, social issues, or personal crusades, according to the E-Poetry team leaders, Eileen Hutchinson, Jennifer Ozgur, and Amy Thomas.

Each winner received a certificate, ribbon, and journal and art set after reading their poems in front of a live audience.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kalia Reynolds expressed enthusiasm for writing with bits of wisdom for the young poets.
“This contest and culminating ceremony not only offer our students an amazing opportunity to showcase their passion and talent, but also to challenge themselves to confidently share their art with an audience,” Reynolds said.
A Poetry Anthology Book of all the award-winning poems and art will be sent to the main offices of each school in the district.
