245 Anniversary Of Continental Army March At Valley Forge Park

The public is invited Saturday to participate in anniversary of the army's arrival at Valley Forge.

VALLEY FORGE , PA —Valley Forge National Historical Park will commemorate the 245th anniversary of the arrival of the Continental Army to Valley Forge in 1777 on Saturday, Dec. 17, with free family-friendly programming and hands-on activities.

At check-in visitors can pick up a worksheet to take to all the activities and return at the end of the day to receive a Junior Ranger badge.

These activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside the Visitor Center At Valley Forge:

  • Cartridge Making: Learn about the importance of black powder cartridges and other military supplies. Join this interactive program and make your own cartridge, just like a soldier who fought in the American Revolution.
  • Colonial Hats and Cockades: Construct your own fashionable hat to wear.
  • Tailoring Brigade, Clothing Try-On, and Selfie Station: Learn how they make, repair, and alter living history clothing for public interpretation or exhibition, then try on some colonial clothing and pose for a picture.
  • The Way of the Quill: Practice your numbers and letters with a quill pen and ink.


Outdoor activities

  • A free guided walk led by reenactors from Spencer’s Additional Regiment departs from the visitor center at 10 a.m. and proceeds to Muhlenberg's Brigade to kick off the outdoor programs.
  • March-In activities are spread across the park from 9 .m. to 4 p.m. with programming taking place at the visitor center, Muhlenberg's Brigade, and the Washington's Headquarters area.
  • When the sun goes down, the lanterns light up and it's time to gather around the campfire for evening programs at Muhlenberg's Brigade, scheduled at 4 and 5 p.m.
