$250K For Full-Day Kindergarten At Kennett School District

Full-day kindergarden results in better academic performance, according to state Department of Education.

KENNETT SQUARE, PA– Kennett Consolidated School District has been awarded a $250,000 to provide full-day kindergarden.

State Rep. Christina Sappey, a Chester County Democrat, said full-day kindergarten supports working parents by reducing the cost of child care.”

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, children in high-quality full-day kindergarten programs often have better long-term educational outcomes, Sappey said.

Dr. Dusty Blakey, superintendent, said great school systems are like quality buildings– every long-lasting one has a strong foundation.

“As a community, the best investment we can make is in early childhood education," Blakey said.

Blakey said the full-day kindergarten program also levels the playing field for all regardless of their beginnings.

The grant program utilizes funds from this year’s bipartisan state budget passed in July.
