Collegeville Wawa Robbery Suspect Arrested

Police say a Limerick man held a convenience store clerk at knife point and demanded cash.

A Limerick man is in Montgomery County prison after police say he pointed a knife at a Wawa cashier last weekend and demanded cash from the register, according to phoenixvillenews.com.

Reports say that surveillance footage led investigators to arrest Matthew Schnell, 25, of Limerick, for the March 22 armed robbery of the Wawa located on Main Street in Collegeville.

Schnell has been charged with one felony count of robbery, plus misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, theft by unlawful taking, making terroristic threats and possession of an instrument of crime. He was arraigned before District Judge Walter Gadzicki, Jr. on March 26 and has a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled before Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar on April 8.

According to reports, Collegeville officers reviewed the surveillance video from the robbery and recognized the mask used by the suspect as one seen in another case where a Wawa employee stole money from the till. The cashier identified Schnell in a photo lineup, and police arrested the suspect at his home in Limerick on Friday.
