Name Main Street Bridge After MLK, Group Says
A delegation made its case before the Phoenixville Borough Council to support naming the Main Street after Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The bridge with no name should honor the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., a group of civic leaders said to the Phoenixville Borough Council.
According to the Daily Local News, representatives from local churches asked the council Tuesday night to throw its support toward naming the Main Street Bridge after the iconic civil rights leader.
The bridge, spanning French Creek, is maintained by Chester County, which would make any final decisions regarding the name change. The delegation, featuring former Phoenixville mayor Leo Scoda, the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church and a representative from the Grimes African Methodist Episcopalian Church, asked the council to back their request when they go before the Chester County Commissioners.

Scoda compared the bridge joining Phoenixville northern and southern section to Dr. King’s legacy of overcoming racial division, the report says. Unlike the nearby Veterans Memorial Gay Street Bridge, the lower bridge does not have an official name.
No decision was made by the council as it considers the proposal.
