WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County commissioners on Thursday appointed Jamie Johnson as director of the county's Drug & Alcohol Services department to replace Vince Brown, who retired after 32 years of service.

Johnson has resided in West Chester for over 35 years and is an animal advocate.

“Jamie is passionate about helping those who struggle with substance abuse disorders, and her decades-long career with drug and alcohol services demonstrates that passion,” Marian Moskowitz, chairwoman, said.

“The impact of substance use disorder affects far too many in our communities, so having resources readily available to those in need is of critical importance in Chester County."

Johnson worked on a project this year to implement the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative, which allows police to provide assistance to getting those suffering with substance abuse into treatment.

District Attorney Deb Ryan said the program receives seven to 10 referrals each month.
"I wish Jamie the best in her new position and look forward to our continued work together,” she said.

Commissioner Josh Maxwell said Johnson advocates for recovery programs that assist various populations with substance use disorder, including the uninsured and underinsured.

"People need to know that treatment services are available to anyone and everyone," Maxwell said.

The department supports numerous events each year, including the Chester County Color 5K, which raises funds for Community Outreach Prevention and Education program.

The department also leads recovery month, International Overdose Awareness Day, Alcohol Awareness Month, and naloxone training.

“Jamie’s mantra is ‘recovery is possible,’ especially given the robust recovery community in Chester County,” said Commissioner Michelle Kichline. “She is the right person at the right time for this job because she believes there is hope for anyone who suffers from substance use disorder.”
