Parkview Heights Development Proposal Dies In Council

Members of the public jam the Phoenixville Borough Council meeting to voice opposition.

After about an hour of public comments, mostly strongly opposed to the proposal, Phoenixville Borough Council essentially killed a developer's proposal to build more than 75 low and moderate income housing units.

"The proposal didn't comply with zoning requirements," Council President Richard Kirkner told Patch after the meeting came to an end shortly before 11 p.m..

The end result is that the council took no action on the application for the development and has no plans to approve it in its current form, namely a four-story building. The Friendship Field area on the North Side of Phoenixville is zoned for three stories or less.

The land is owned by the Friendship Fire Company. The fire company is not the one seeking the approval it was the potential buyer.

An overflow crowd and a long line of Phoenixville residents told council members the area is already over burdened by traffic and the new development on 2.9 acres of land would make a bad traffic situation worse.
