Phoenixville Prepares Opening of Schuykill River Trail Segment

The path will connect Phoenixville to more than 60 miles of completed trails.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at the Phoenixville Foundry to mark the opening of a major segment of the Schuylkill River Trail. The completed portion connects Phoenixville to more than 60 miles of completed trail in the region, plus a 26-mile path from Philadelphia to Phoenixville.

When it is finished, the Schuylkill River Trail will travel along the river from Pottsville to Philadelphia for 128 miles.

Across the canal in Montgomery County, the Schuylkill Canal Association has asked hikers to stay off the section of the canal from Route 29 to the end of Longford Road.

Seeding and fertilization of the tow path has started, and the ground needs time to vegetate. Foot and bicycle traffic could hinder the process, so users are asked to avoid that section until the grass begins to grow. The section from Route 29 to the Locktenders house is open.
