Phoenixville Woman Pleads Guilty to Fifth DUI

The defendant faces possible jail time in state prison stemming from multiple DUI arrests in the past year.

A Phoenixville woman arrested for driving under the influence in August after backing her car into another vehicle is facing possible jail time after pleading guilty Monday to her fifth DUI offense, including three in the past year.

Phoenixville police arrested Cindy Lynn Souder, 41,of Milligram Street, three times between August and October last year, according to the Pottstown Mercury. She had previously pleaded guilty to the October and September incidents and closed the August case on Monday. Coupled with DUI convictions in 2007 and 2009, she could receive a minimum sentence of three to six years in state prison, according to reports.

Reports say that the first incident occurred August 1 on Bridge Street in Phoenixville, when Souder backed her car into another motorist. She told police that she thought the car was in reverse. Blood tests showed Souder’s blood alcohol content as .21 percent, according to the Mercury.

The second DUI happened in September 2014, when officers reported to a hit-and-run at a three-vehicle crash. Souder was found outside her home, where she admitted to driving the car that caused the accident. Finally, in October 2014, Souder was involved in another car accident, striking a pole in the rear parking lot of a business on Bridge Street.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled to take place within 60 days by Chester County Common Pleas Judge Ann Marie Wheatcraft.
