Security Upgrades Approved By Phoenixville Area School Board
The board voted in favor of spending $438,000 on a new security system and monitor to oversee the system.
PHOENIXVILLE, PA —Phoenixville Area School Board on Monday night approved allocating $438,000 for infrastructure security upgrades in the wake of the May 24 massacre of 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
An estimated $165,000 of the grant is covered by a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission of Crime and Delinquency.
Dr. Alan Fegley, superintendent, said the details of the upgrades are confidential for security reasons.

The board also approved hiring a school security monitor to oversee all of the systems in the district’s school. The district consists of a high school, middle school and three elementary schools and a kindergarten center.
The board did not hire a school resource officer , which is a law enforcement officer assigned to a school.

The board asked two student representatives to survey students on their thoughts of having a school resource officer and/or armed security officers in the school.
The board has two unarmed security officers in the high school and middle school.
There are 4,002 students in the district, which covers Phoenixville, and East Pikeland and Schuylkill township.
