Get Buzzed On Honey BBQ, Ice Cream Drizzle And More

Cedarville United Methodist Church will host a Honey Festival that will include a display of active honeybees in a clear observation hive.

Cedarville United Methodist Church will host a Honey Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24.

The event will include informative activities including a display of active honeybees in a clear observation hive.    

Local beekeepers will explain the important role honeybees play in the environment and food chain.

Representatives from Penn State Extension and two master gardeners will discuss how to attract honeybees using various backyard plants. They will also explain how the use of dangerous insecticides can harm honeybees.

The Pennsylvania Honey Princess will also be at the event and provide activities for children including the "Bee Movie," a free film at 11 a.m.

The event will include 20 vendors with local fruits, bees wax, honey products and a wide variety of crafts.   

The festival will offer samples of various kinds of honey.

Ideas on how to use the golden nectar -- including as a honey barbecue, in baked goods, on roasted nuts and as an ice cream drizzle -- will also be provided.

The Honey Festival will be held rain or shine at Cedarville United Methodist Church, 1092 Laurelwood Road, North Coventry Township.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the CUMC Adult Mission Trip to Mississippi.
