Local 4-H Clubs Gear Up for 2012

Clubs include beekeeping, shooting sports, community service and leadership groups.

From Montgomery County 4-H:

The tents and all the animals, food vendors and thousands of community members have come and gone from the Montgomery County 4-H Center in Skippack for the annual 4-H fair -- but that does not mean that there isn’t plenty going on.

The Montgomery County 4-H clubs are kicking off their new enrollment year and now is the best time to get involved.

At the 4-H Fair in August, the public got a chance to see kids ages 8-18 working with the animals that they raise across the county.

But 4-H isn’t just horses and chickens and cows.

Furry Friends is a club that works with rabbits and cavies -- also known as guinea pigs.

The Creamery Crafters do a variety of projects from sewing to rocketry.

To join a 4-H horse club you don’t even need a horse.

And there is even a club for the collectors of horse models.

Clubs include beekeeping, Seeing Eye Puppies, shooting sports, community service and leadership groups.

Last year the Kit Kat Club and the Alpaca Club were added and this year the Young Entomologists is emerging.

There are many opportunities available, just because you don’t live on a farm or own an animal doesn’t mean you can’t become a 4-H member.

Not only does 4-H provide field trip and event opportunities, but the 4-H members learn responsibility, communication, leadership skills and build lifelong friendships.
