No Spill After Freight Train Derails In Pottstown: Officials

Authorities said the incident did not impact the environment.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed in Pottstown late Friday, but no significant damage is believed to have occurred to the freight cars or the product inside them, according to authorities.

The incident occurred near Hanover Street and College Drive at around 9 a.m.

The trains contained butyl acrylate, the Reading Eagle reported, a substance often used in paints, coatings, and plastics. It is toxic to the environment, especially aquatic organisms, but authorities were adamant that there was no spilling and the environment has not been impacted.
