Montco Man Dies After Ocean Rescue At Jersey Shore
The Montgomery County man and others were swimming despite a red flag warning on the beaches.

AVON-BY-THE SEA, NJ — A Pottstown man died while swimming at the Jersey Shore Sunday night, according to police in New Jersey.
The incident occurred in Avon-by-the-Sea at around 6:34 p.m., in Monmouth County.
The victim, a 55-year-old man, was not identified beyond his age and hometown.

The man was among several swimmers who got into trouble off the Washington Avenue beach, near the Shark River Inlet.
Two other swimmers were rescued as well, and were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

The Pottstown man was also taken there, but died shortly after arrival, police said.
All beaches along that stretch of shore had red flags over the weekend due to a powerful, dangerous surf, officials said, meaning no swimming was permitted.
