Pottstown Marketing Students Shine At State Conference
Thirteen members on the Pottstown High School DECA team recently participated in the 61st Annual State Career Development Conference in Hershey.

Pottstown High School DECA juniors Miranda Somich and Megan Schmidt received a medallion for the highest test score in the Buying and Merchandising team event. They placed 5th overall out of 29 teams competing in the competition.

Zach Haines, a senior and DECA Chapter President at Pottstown High School, competed in the Advertising Campaign event. Zach works for Tommy Hilfiger in the Philadelphia Premium Outlets. Zach designed a marketing campaign for Tommy Hilfiger which he presented to his worksite managers. The campaign was published in the corporate newsletter “The Tommy Times.”
Lindsey Havyer competed in the Community Service Project where she showcased her efforts of the “Pottstown Clean Up.” Lindsey’s project placed 6th in the Community Service Project category competing against 25 other teams. Lindsey was also the Pottstown High School Voting Delegate for the PA DECA Officer Elections for the 2012-13 school year. She will be representing Pottstown High School as the Pennsylvania District 8 Representative on the Pennsylvania DECA Board for the 2012-13 school year.

Tatiana Robinson showed off her interviewing skills by placing 2nd out of 25 students in the Job Interview competition.

DECA is the only career and technical student organization operating through the nation’s schools to attract young people to careers in marketing management and entrepreneurship. Its purposes are to develop respect for education which will contribute to occupational competency and to promote understanding and appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship in our free enterprise system. More than 1,400 students participated in the three day state conference. There are 70 DECA chapters in Pennsylvania with a membership of more than 3,400 students, alumni, teachers, and business professionals.
