Pharmacy In Pottstown Dispensed Opioids Without Prescriptions: Feds

The highly addictive drugs were dispensed either without prescriptions or a valid medical need, officials said.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A Montgomery County pharmacy dispensed opioids illegally to patients, often without a prescription or valid cause, federal officials said.

Professional Pharmacy & Convalescent Products, Ltd., located in Pottstown on 920 N Charlotte Street, must pay the federal government a fine of $150,000. It also surrendered its registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“Federal law imposes obligations on pharmacies like Professional to only dispense controlled substances when appropriate,” said U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero said in a statement. “The law is critical in protecting our community from the dangers of the opioid epidemic."
