Man Found Shot Dead In Pottstown Apartment: DA

POTTSTOWN, PA — An 18-year-old man was shot to death in his Pottstown apartment on Wednesday and authorities said today they are investigating the death as a homicide.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Pottstown Police Chief Mick Markovich announced a joint investigation into the homicide that happened Wednesday afternoon at an apartment in the 600 block of Chestnut Street in Pottstown.

The victim was identified as Chediaz Thomas, 18, who had been living in the apartment for the last three months, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Thomas was found shot dead in his bedroom on Oct. 20 after Pottstown Police answered a 9-1-1 call around 2:29 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers went to 618 Chestnut Street, Apt. 3 and reported they were met by the 9-1-1 caller, who had been asked by the landlord to check on the resident, according to the report.

A Thursday news statement said a joint investigation into this homicide was launched by Pottstown Police and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.

An autopsy was performed by Dr. Julia De La Garza of the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, who determined that the cause of death was a perforating gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was homicide.
