The National Weather Service expects the Schuylkill River in the area to reach nearly 20.5 feet by Thursday evening. Flood stage for the river is 12.5 feet, according to the organization.

More rain is on the way for Pottstown, according to AccuWeather.com and the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms are expected Thursday and Friday.

And that means more flooding for some areas.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles because flood waters are typically deeper than they appear. Highway and emergency management officials warn people to avoid flooded areas.

"The fact that this follows Irene ... is compounding the problem," Gov. Tom Corbett said in a press conference Wednesday night. "We have activated 500 National Guard troops. They're on standby."
