Roxborough 'Shopper's Parking Lot' To Be Renovated
Leverington and Ridge Avenue are getting $215,000 to make significant improvements to the area.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Work to improve the parking area located on the northwest side of 6100 Ridge Avenue is expected to begin Spring 2016, the Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) announced over the weekend.
The parking lot, also known as the Leverington Avenue Shopper’s Parking Lot, is adjacent to the future site of the Roxborough Pocket Park.
“I am pleased to contribute $215,000 for improvements to the Leverington Avenue Parking Lot,” Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. said in a statement. “For far too long, this parking lot has been in disrepair and not attractive to Ridge Avenue shoppers. With this money and the new pocket park, shoppers will now have a safe, convenient place to park and hang out in the heart of the Roxborough business district.”

In 2015, through the RDC’s District Improvements Committee, plans to improve the site were developed and presented to Councilman Curtis Jones Jr.
After discussions with the parking lot’s owner, Philadelphia Department of Public Property, a scope of rehabilitation work was developed. Scheduled improvements will include the repair of existing drainage, curbs, sidewalks, asphalt paving, lighting, striping, signage and landscaping.

“The Roxborough Development Corporation is looking forward to the long awaited improvements,” says Roxborough Development Corporation Executive Director James Harry Calamia. “We are grateful to Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. for his commitment to improve the site and look forward to working with DPP to see it is properly maintained in the future.”
The office of Councilman Jones has committed to funding the improvements and recognizes the parking lot as a major asset to the future growth of the Roxborough District. After renovations are completed the RDC will explore options to lease the lot from the Department of Public Property (DPP) in order to take over city functions such as snow removal, weeding, landscaping, lighting and trash removal.
Approximately $215,000 is budgeted for the new lot which will be drawn from the 4th Council District’s FY 2016 Capital Funding Budget.
