Shawmont, on 7700 Nixon Street, is 189 years-old.

It formerly served as a stop on the rail line, once known as the R6, that has today become SEPTA’s Manayunk-Norristown line.
It is positioned between the Ivy Ridge and Miquon Stations, and rail passengers can view it from their window.

Originally built in 1834, it finally went out of commission in 1996, according to SEPTA records.
Multiple uses have been bandied about for the historic building, including a museum-visitors center-environmental center along the Schuylkill River Trail. What do you think? What should become of Shawmont Station?
