Hundreds of runners/walkers attended the 6th Annual Race for a Cure 5K Run at Lehigh Parkway for 12-year-old Adam Recke, who has Niemann-Pick Type C,disease.
The Race for Adam Foundation held the 6th Annual Race for a Cure 5k on Saturday, May 7, under clear blue skies at Lehigh Parkway in Allentown. The race is held for , a 12-year-old from Bethlehem Township who has Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare and fatal neural degenerative disease which has no cure.
People with Niemann-Pick Type C are unable to metabolize cholesterol and other lipids properly within their cells. As a result, excessive amounts of cholesterol accumulate within the liver and spleen, and excessive amounts of lipids accumulate in the brain. Most children with the disease die before age 20.
With clear skies and warm weather, hundreds of runners and walkers lined up to show their support by participating in the race. Mike Miller, 18, of Salisbury Township,Β won the race at 18 minutes, 36 seconds, followed closely by Zachary Moyer, 24, of Orefield, with a time of 19 minutes.

After the race, families enjoyed more music by Scott Marshal, an instructional aide at Salisbury Middle School where Adams' father, Sean, also teaches. The school and community came out in full force to support the cause.
Marshal wrote a song for Adam entitled, "With Every New Day." The song can be downloaded from iTunes, and all proceeds benefit the Race For Adam Foundation.
