Northampton Community College’s Center for Business and Industry will offer a first-time-ever workshop for nurses and physicians assistants who want to become eligible to work in pre-hospital emergency care. The workshop is also designed for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who want to reestablish lapsed certifications.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires even licensed physicians to be certified by the Department of Health if they want to work in out-of-hospital acute medical care such as that provided on ambulances. The workshop at the community college will cover BLS protocol review, BLS airway management, medication administration and limitations, immobilization techniques for trauma patients, patient assessment (medical and trauma), and splinting techniques to prepare participants for the EMT Skills Challenge Examination administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
To register, call 1-877-543-0998 or visit www.northampton.edu and click on “Search Courses” for the EMT-B Skills Exam. When registering, reference course code BETE9534-U1. The course fee of $300 is due at the time of registration via a credit card. For more information, call workshop coordinator/instructor Don Pond, EMT-P at 610-332-6412 or e-mail dpond@northampton.edu. The class will meet from 8-5 at Northampton’s Fowler Family Southside Center at 511 East Third Street, Bethlehem.
