Five Things To Do This Weekend

1. Hip-Hop Project: gEner8-tion Txt

 Where/When: This blend of spoken word, drama, music and movement runs Thursday, April 14, through Saturday, April 16. All shows start at 8 p.m. at the Zoellner Arts Center, 420 E. Packer Avenue, Bethlehem.

Why go: This theatre piece, written by Lehigh students, is sure to pique the mind’s interest as well as the senses.

 2. Jazz Cabaret with June Thomas & Friends

 Where/When: Good music, good food and good friends await at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 15, at the Rodale Room at Allentown Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown.

 Why go: Jazz is still alive and well. Enjoy it.

 3. The Trophy Husbands

 Why go: These four friends were all part of other groups when they discovered a shared loved of Motown, the blues and one-hit-wonders. And one of the Lehigh Valley’s most popular bar bands was born. Plus there’s always $5 martinis.

 4. The Sustain-a-Ball

 Where/When: Support local green efforts by attending this second annual event, kicking off at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 16, at the Allentown Brew Works, 812 W. Hamilton St., Allentown.

Why go: Delicious eats, from a pasta bar to a dessert buffet, live music, silent auctions and all for a good cause: to preserve the Lehigh Valley’s natural resources.

 5.  “Yes, I’m Going Fishin’”

 Where/When: Listen to some tall tales set to a live folk soundtrack, Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m. at the Charles A. Brown Ice House, 56 River St., Sand Island, Bethlehem.

 Why go: Yes, it’s early, but if we don’t support our local storytellers (The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild), who will? Plus, the show will be followed by a folk music workshop.
