Moment of Silence Friday at Airports Nationwide

If you're in a security line at a major airport Friday, operations will pause briefly for a moment of silence to honor the TSA employee killed by a gunman who terrorized Los Angeles International Airport Nov. 1, the Transportation Security Administration announced.

Airports across the country will observe a moment of silence on Friday, Nov. 8, at 9:20 a.m. PST, 12:20 p.m. EST – the time of last Friday’s incident at LAX – to honor fallen TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez and his family.

"TSA checkpoint operations will very briefly pause to observe this moment of silence," the TSA said.

Hernandez, father of two, was the first TSA officer to be killed in the line of duty since the agency was formed after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

He was shot at apparent point-blank range in a shooting rampage carried out by a man said to have a grudge against employees of the agency, according to police. 

Paul Ciancia, 23, has been charged in the shootings in which several other people were injured.
