Olympian Varvara Lepchenko Competes in Tennis Again Today
Lehigh Valley Olympian Varvara Lepchenko, who lives in Upper Macungie, competes in her second round of tennis in 2012 games in London this morning.
Lehigh Valley Olympian  competes in the second round of singles tennis today against Julia Goerges of Germany.
It will be the day's second match after 11:30 a.m. London time -- about 8 a.m. in the Lehigh Valley.
Lepchenko, formerly of Uzbekistan, has resided in South Whitehall but now lives in Upper Macungie. She has trained at the 24/7 Fitness Club at West End in South Whitehall in recent years and competed in a tournament there, said Liz Lentz, who works at the club's front desk.

"We're all thrilled for her progression in tennis," Lentz said. "We're very excited...watching for her success."
On Monday, Lepchenko defeated Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay to advance to the second round at the Olympics tennis competition.

Lepchenko  Lepchenko beat Cepede Royg 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 in the first round.
NBC 10 reports that Lepchenko and Cepede Royg were unable to complete their match on Sunday due to darkness. Lepchenko quickly beat Cepede Royg Monday in a 29-minute final set, the report said.
The women's tennis portion of the Games began Saturday, July 28, and runs through Aug. 5.Â
