Oxford Drive Bridge Fully Open, PennDOT Says

The Oxford Drive Bridge, a main thoroughfare for Salisbury Township School District buses, is now open after a PennDOT rehabilitation project.

The Oxford Drive Bridge over the Little Lehigh River in Allentown, on the Salisbury Township border, is now fully open, according to PennDOT.

Northbound Oxford Drive was closed and detoured since June 13 for a bridge rehabilitation project. Work on the Oxford Drive Bridge included bridge deck overlaying, expansion dam replacement, beam repairs, substructure and parapet repairs and other miscellaneous construction.

During construction northbound Oxford Drive was closed and detoured between Fish Hatchery Road and Lindberg Avenue. Northbound Oxford Drive traffic was detoured on Fish Hatchery Road, Cedar Crest Boulevard and Hamilton Boulevard.

Heim Construction, Co. of Pottsville was the general contractor on the $367,670 project.

The Oxford Drive Bridge is a three span concrete I-beam bridge originally constructed in 1960 and rehabilitated in 1980. It is 226 feet long and 35 feet wide.

This section of Oxford Drive has an average daily traffic volume of 9,586 vehicles.
