Salisbury Commissioners Concerned About Traffic From Bottom Dollar Grocery On Broadway

Commissioners will ask for Fountain Hill Borough's traffic studies

Concerned about traffic that will be generated by the new Bottom Dollar Food on Broadway in neighboring Fountain Hill Borough, the Salisbury Township board of commissioners will request traffic studies prepared by the borough.

Bottom Dollar Food, part of a low-cost supermarket chain,Β  is under construction just across the township line in the 1500 block of Broadway, between Dodson Street and Hertzog Avenue.Β  It is on the site of the former Fountain Hill Beneficial Society (Castle Hill) and the Hill Cafe and Hill Billiards.Β

Commissioner Norma Cusick told the board at its March 10 meeting she is concerned how the supermarket will affect traffic on Broadway, in particular how it would affect entrance and egress from the KidsPeace campus up the street.

"It's going to be really difficult coming in and out of those facilities," Cusick said.

She said the traffic generated by the new supermarket could also have an impact on the Salisbury Township Police Department.

Township Manager Randy Soriano said PennDOT probably reviewed the plans since Broadway is a state road.

When complete, it will be the third Bottom Dollar Food in the Lehigh Valley, a low-cost supermarket chain based in Salisbury, N.C.Β

The developer, DHD Ventures-Fountain Hill, LLC.,Β  bought the Fountain Hill Beneficial Society building and plans to enlargen the existing structure on the site, according to the township.Β  Because of the new configuration to the structure and the parking lot, the board of commissioners last month amended the easement deed that existed for accessing the township's sewer meter pit.Β
