Applications Being Taken for High School Youth Reporter Program

Pittsburgh Youth Media is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 High School Youth Reporter Program.

This program is designed to recruit, train and encourage a diverse team of students to cover local, regional and national issues from their perspective.

High School Youth Reporters produce stories presenting fact and opinion using journalistic writing, creative writing, photography, audio, video, original art and more for broad publication via traditional media (i.e., print, television and radio) and web-based platforms.

During last year's program, 42 students from 26 school districts produced nearly 100 stories during their onsite coverage of the five-day One Young World 2012 Summit in Pittsburgh.  Based on the success of last year's program, Pittsburgh Youth Media is again seeking applications from rising high school students (i.e., entering grades 9 through 12 in Fall 2013) to serve as High School Youth Reporters during the 2013-2014 school year.

Students who would like to become Youth Reporters must fill out the application at tinyurl.com/PYM2013 by May 24.

In considering whether to apply, please note that this program requires a serious commitment, including mandatory attendance at a media boot camp and conference as well as an ongoing commitment to publish at least stories throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
