Sewickley Library Booksale

When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. today and Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Sewickley Public Library.

Why Go: Sewickley's library will have its annual winter book sale. Sunday is bag day: A bag filled with books will cost only $5. 

Admission: Free.

When/Where: 7 tonight at Arena's Performing Arts Centre, Moon.

Why Go: Couples and singles are invited to learn the jitterbug, the hustle and swing. The class will be offered through March 2. Call to register. 

Admission: $80 for singles and $90 for couples. 

 

Jazz Band at Sweetwater Center for the Arts

When/Where: 7 tonight at Sweetwater Center for the Arts, Sewickley.

Why Go: The arts center continues its live jazz series with the Pittsburgh-based ensemble Boilerplate. The band delivers hot jazz and swing music in an event that is open to Sweetwater members and the general public. 

Admission: $10 for non-members.

 

Backyard Bird Count

When/Where: 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Fern Hollow Nature Center, Sewickley Heights.

Why Go: Children and adults can watch birds, collect data and report their results. All ages and skill levels welcome. Bring binoculars and dress warm.  

Admission: Free.

 

Presidents Day Storytime

When/Where: 11 a.m. Saturday at Coraopolis Memorial Library, Coraopolis. 

Why Go: Children can make presidential crafts and hear stories about America's leaders at this Presidents Day-themed event. 

Admission: Free. 

 

Meet Bryan Trottier

When/Where: noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Giant Eagle, Leetsdale. 

Why Go: Former Pittsburgh Penguins centerman and seven-time Stanley Cup winner Bryan Trottier will meet fans at the grocery store as part of a grand re-opening celebrating the store's new expansion and renovations. 

Admission: Free.

 

Free Pancake Breakfast

When/Where: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Matthews AME Church, Sewickley. 

Why Go: Throughout February, the historical church in the heart of Sewickley is hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast.  Come eat and enjoy the fellowship.

Admission: Free.

 

Fourth Annual Lovers not Fighters Gala

When/Where: 7 p.m. Saturday at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, Oakland

Why Go: This event, benefiting pit bull rescues, neutering and education, will feature a silent auction, buffet and DJ. There will be a few canine special guests attending.

Admission: $50 per person.
