South Whitehall Township and the Board of Commissioners recognized two volunteer firefighters on Wednesday, February 16. Andrew Kloss and Jared Diachynsky, of Cetronia Fire Department, were both honored for their bravery and response to a large house fire on November 16, 2021 in Salisbury Township. Although Andrew and Jared suffered some unfortunate injuries, they both exhibited outstanding performance and exceptional courage while ensuring the safety of others. On November 16,2021, several of our fire stations were called to 3015 Barrington LN, in Salisbury Township. Truck 331 from Cetronia was one of the apparatuses responding. Upon arrival, T-331 was given an assignment to search the structure for possible victims. Firefighters Andrew Kloss and Jared Diachynsky entered the structure to search for victims. During their search of the second-floor, conditions deteriorated rapidly and were cut off from their escape route. Both firefighters sustained burn injuries in the process of finding a window to escape the building. Bailing out the window FF Kloss fell from the second floor and landed on an air conditioning unit and FF Diachynsky was able to cling to the roof and was able to come down a ladder. Both Firefighters were transported to the hospital and spent several days in the burn unit. Both firefighters are fully recovered and back to full duty.
