Springhouse Middle School Student Wins Spelling Bee

Angela Qui, a sixth-grader at Springhouse Middle School, will go on to represent the school in March at the regional Scripps National Spelling Bee at Northampton Community College.

Angela Qiu, a sixth-grade student, is the 2013 Springhouse Middle School spelling bee champion.

Angela, who had a near perfect score on the preliminary round written test, competed against 13 other contestants in grades six-eight for the championship title.

Along with Angela, Brooke Shimer, Spencer Schade, Derrick Shi, Sunayana Jampanaboyana, Sabrina Ghosh, Nur Bookwala, James Kim, Roy Ghosh, Aryaman Khandelwal, Sung Min Park, Andrea Maghacot, Aditi Pallod, and Jeff Yi
represented the top spellers of more than 150 students who participated in the preliminary written round.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee provides students with the opportunity to sharpen their spelling skills through local, regional and national competitions.  After spelling her winning word – salvageable – Angela received prizes from the Encyclopaedia Britannica and K-12 Inc.

Second-place winner Nur Bookwala also received prizes from Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Angela will now go on to represent Springhouse at the regional spelling bee to be held in March at Northampton Community College.
