"We are fully committed to ensuring restitution to anyone who may have been victimized by this former employee's alleged actions," Hammer said at a joint news conference held Tuesday with Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin, Assistant District Attorney Charles Gallagher and South Whitehall Township Police Chief Thomas Toth.
Hammer was referring to longtime township employee Nancy Tonkin, who with her husband, former township police officer William Tonkin, were charged with conspiring to embezzle $854,497 from township coffers.
Residents who have questions about their water, sewer or refuse accounts are encouraged to monitor the township website at www.southwhitehall.com, Hammer said.

"It is through this website we will continue to disseminate the latest information," he said.

"We are fully committed to working with the district attorney's office to ensure that justice is served. We are fully committed to take the steps necessary to maximize the recovery of funds so the township is made whole to the fullest extent realistically possible.
"Let me assure you the township board of commissioners, management team, township staff are committed to safeguarding township assets and ensuring something like this never happens again," Hammer said.
