'Traffic Blitzes' to Continue in Upper Macungie

A total of 633 traffic tickets were issued in Upper Macungie Township in June, according to a report issued to township supervisors by Police Chief Edgardo Colon.

Colon said high-impact "traffic blitzes" will continue, due in part to federal grant money that pays police officers overtime to work additional hours on traffic detail.

"We deploy a lot of officers where there are high incidents of crashes or events," Colon said. "We saturate the areas. We get a lot of federal money to use for Click-it-Or-Ticket, aggressive driving and DUI enforcement. It's going to continue."

Upper Macungie Police made 27 arrests during the month. The breakdown is as follows:

• 3 defiant trespass

• 9 DUI

• 1 false ID to law enforcement

• 5 harassment

• 1 hit-and-run

• 2 drug violations

• 1 transfer of firearm violation

• 3 thefts

• 2 underage drinking
