Birds, Bees and Bats Are Important to Ecosystem

The Longswamp Township Environmental Advisory Commission hosted a seminar in Breinigsville on Feb. 18.

The Longswamp Township Environmental Advisory Commission concerning the importance of birds, bats and bees to the ecosystem in Breinigsville on Feb. 18, according to BerksMontNews.com.

The report stated that several speakers made presentations to a crowd of more than 100 people.

The report quoted Kate Harm, chair of Longswamp's EAC stating that birds, bees, and bats play crucial roles in the balance of our ecosystem and our food system.

The report said other speakers gave talks about the challenges facing birds, bees and bats including bird habitat/sustainable landscaping and the devastating challenges bats face with White Nose Syndrome.

The report also noted a local beekeeper gave a talk concerning keeping honeybees and native mason bees.
