Curbside Yard Waste Pickup Set for May 15

The Upper Macungie Public Works Department will hold a one-time curbside spring yard waste pickup for all township residents on May 15.

The Upper Macungie Public Works Department will hold a one-time spring curbside yard waste pickup on Wednesday, May 15.

The Public Works Department wants residents to know the parameters for the curbside pickup:

WHAT YOU CAN PUT OUT: Leaves from trees, bushes and other plants, shrubbery clippings and tree trimmings.

WHAT YOU CAN'T PUT OUT: Grass clippings, roots from trees or shrubs, or lumber. Improper bags, bundles or materials will go uncollected and tagged to inform the homeowner why materials were not accepted.

HOW TO PREPARE: Yard waste must be placed in commercially designed open trash containers with sloped sides, no larger than 32-gallon capacity, with a total weight of no more than 60 pounds. Smaller limbs and branches must be tied and properly bundled to a maximum size of 48" by 18" by 18" with a maximum weight of 60 pounds. If branches and limbs are not bundled, they will not be picked up. Ties for bundles must be made of biodegradable material.

HOW MUCH: A combined maximum of six containers will be accepted.

All containers must be placed curbside on Tuesday, May 14 after 6 p.m.

The next curbside yard waste collection will be in the fall.

Yard waste can always be brought to the township's yard waste site on Grim Road.
