National Night Out, Movies-in-the-Park Top Week Ahead
A barn sale at Gress Mountain Ranch, a book sale at Parkland Community Library and a computer basics class also highlight the week's activities.

It is the first full week of August and there's precious little time left to take those vacations before the kids go back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
But, there's still time left to enjoy the hazy, crazy days of summer and the week ahead in Upper Macungie and the surrounding area offers plenty of chances to do just that. Here are some of the highlights of the week:
- The Upper Macungie Police Department hosts its first National Night Out on Tuesday at Lone Lane Park from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Previously, the now-defunct Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department hosted the event. National Night Out is nationwide annual event designed to raise awareness, develop local police partnerships with the community and strengthen neighborhood spirit and unity. - The final edition of this season's Movies-in-the-Park series is scheduled for Friday at Breinigsville Park. The featured presentation will be "The Pirates! Band of Misfits." The movie will screen at dusk Refreshments will be available for purchase. Bring your own lawn chair and/or blanket and enjoy!
- A barn sale at the Gress Mountain Ranch Camp, located at 3264 Highland Road in Orefield, will take place Friday, beginning at 8 a.m. Call 610-398-2122 with any questions or email gressranch@gmail.com.
- The Parkland Community Library's 23rd annual Book Sale is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Friday hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Rd, Allentown. The sale is sponsored by Friends of the Parkland Community Library. Book donations will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the church.
- The Parkland Community Library will also hold Computer Basics class on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Contact Noah Roth at 610-398-1361 for more information.
