Participants, Volunteers Sought For Oct. 9 5K Run

Proceeds will directly benefit park and recreation efforts in the township.

Runners and sponsors are still being sought for the Upper Macungie Run/Walk for Parks, a 5K run and 1-mile walk, slated for Sunday. Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. at

The 5K race, which will be limited to 200 runners, will begin at 9 a.m. and Lone Lane Park. The Fun Run/Walk will start at 9:15 a.m. Registration for runners is $25 per person.

Amazon.com Fulfillment, which operates a facility in the township, has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the event, according to Recreation Board member Chuck Thomas.

“The fall season is a great time of the year to enjoy a few hours outside with your family, friends and neighbors, while helping a great cause - your local parks,” said Thomas.

Efforts to support the park system in the township will be aided by the recently formed Friends of Upper Macungie Township Parks and Recreation, Inc. who will be accepting the donations and sponsorships.

Donations, volunteers and sponsors are currently being sought. The Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors provided seed money of $2,500 for the event, which is expected to be returned from registration fees.
