Police: $5,500 Check Fraud Scam Costs Fogelsville Woman

Upper Macungie Police say a 57-year-old Fogelsville woman cashed fraudulent checks sent to her from a foreign company. The checks bounced, costing her $5,500.

Upper Macungie Police say a 57-year-old Fogelsville woman is the victim of a fraudulent e-mail check scam that has cost her $5,500.

Police say the woman was contacted by e-mail by an Australian art gallery owner and offerered a job.

Police said the woman was sent fraudulent cashier's checks, asked to cash the checks through her bank account, and then send money orders to various places throughout the country.

Police say the woman's bank eventually returned the fraudulent checks as bounced with total losses of $5,500.

Police, who are investigating the case, warn the public not to open e-mails from Roy Marks, who claims to be an Australian art gallery owner.
