Welcome to August! Today is Thursday, Aug. 1, which is expected to feature showers, thunderstorms and possible heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
Here's what's happening in and around Upper Macungie Township today:
- See a summer celebrity tonight at 7 p.m. at Parkland High School. Michael Palmer, M.D., is the author of 15 books that have been translated into 35 languages. Palmer is an associate director of the Massachusetts Medical Society's physician health program. He will speak and sign books, which will be available for purchase. Sponsored by Parkland Community Library.
- Back-to-School alert! It's about a month until Parkland students return to the classroom. Have you started your back-to-school shopping yet? Many Moms and Dads haven't, but many are already done. Read about it here.

- The Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors will hold their monthly agenda meeting at 7 p.m. at the township municipal building, located at 8330 Schantz Road.
- State Senator Pat Browne, who represents Upper Macungie Township, will host a free event today – rain or shine – at Allentown’s Bucky Boyle Park, North Front and Gordon Streets. The Community and Family Expo will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will spotlight the variety of programs and services offered to families by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and numerous local organizations.
- Terry Hill Water Park at 10000 Hamilton Boulevard in Breinigsville is open for swimming from noon to 6 p.m. today, weather permitting.
