Tilghman Street Best Western Reopened

Motel was closed due to carbon monoxide problem.

An Upper Macungie hotel where a man died of carbon monoxide poisoning in 2008 was reopened for business earlier this week after being closed because of a subsequent problem last week.

Township Fire Commissioner Grant Grim said Thursday that the 77-room hotel on was opened to the public Tuesday, following its closure last week for elevated carbon monoxide levels.

Grim said some guests were routed out of hotel rooms Wednesday night due to fire alarm malfunctions, but that the problem has been rectified.

A 63-year old man died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the hotel three years ago and several other guests were sickened. Every room is now equipped with a carbon monoxide detector.
