Sanctuary at Haafsville

Township supervisors voted Thursday night to terminate its animal control with the Sanctuary at Haafsville, stated the facility is not geared up to properly become a kennel. Supervisors said the agreement was mutual. Stray animals in the township will be collected by local police and brought to Berks County.

Supervisors said they finalized a three-year contract with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which provides for 45 cents per hour wage increases for the period in addition to escalating co-payments for medical coverage premiums. Supervisors said they were pleased with the contract.

Supervisor Sam Ashmar reported that arbitration with the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department's rank-and-file officers has been completed and approved. Officers received a three-year pact with pay increases of 2.5 percent in the first year and three percent in the second and third years. In addition, officers will have to contribute to their health care premiums on an escalating basis throughout the three years of the contract.
