Varvara Lepchenko, an Upper Macungie resident ranked 31st in the world, won her first-round match at the U.S. Open in Forest Hills, N.Y, according to a report in The Morning Call.
The score of the match was a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over unseeded Mathilde Johannsson of France.
The report said it was Lepchencko's first victory at the U.S. Open since 2006.
