Weis Markets Begins Building its Fogelsville Superstore

Weis Markets has officially moved to the construction phase of its 68,000-square foot superstore in Fogelsville.

Though the earth movers have been in place since January, the foundation is now prepared for building the "environmentally innovative" grocery store, according to the company.

When construction is completed, the store is expected to achieve U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification for measurably reducing or mitigating its environmental impact for sustainable site.

The new Weis will be about five times larger than the nearby. The building itself is going to be about 80,000 square feet with 68,000 square feet for Weis. The rest will be for rental.

As a "superstore," it will have larger perishable departments, including a produce department with a greater selection of organic produce and a large deli with an expanded food service section.

It will incorporate advanced refrigeration technologies to reduce refrigerant emissions by 60% compared to the typical supermarket, according to a press release. These systems decrease the store’s impact on the ozone layer and climate change.

The store, located at the intersection of Rt. 100 and Glenlivet Road, is supposed to be completed by November.
