5. Today in History: On Aug., 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane. Considered the worst natural disaster in U.S. history, Katrina brought sustained winds of 145 miles an hour. It took till Sept. 1 for tens of thousands to be moved out of New Orleans' Superdome and the city's Convention Center, and six more days for the Army Corps of Engineers to start pumping water out of the city.
