5. Today in History: I said a hip, hop, a hippy to the hip hip…On Aug. 11, 1973, a simple birthday party became the epicenter for a cultural movement that’s taken over the world. At his sister’s birthday party, Clive Campbell -- better known to history as DJ Kool Herc -- started moving the party turntable back and forth, scratching the record and creating a beat. And so, hip hop was born!
