5. Today in History: There's gold in them thar hills! On Aug. 16, 1896, three prospectors named George Carmack, Skookum Jim and Tagish Charlie found nuggets of gold in a creek bed in Canada's Yukon Territory. After staking their claim, the word spread fast, and the gold rush was on!
