5. Today in History: On July 22, 1934, "Public Enemy #1" was taken down by Chicago police in a hail of bullets. John Dillinger was one of the most prolific criminals of all time, robbing more banks in a 12-month period than Jesse James did in his whole career. Oddly enough, on July 22, 1923, Dillinger joined the Navy to escape prosecution for a car theft. He didn’t last long, and a decade later Dillinger earned a place in American folklore.
