5 Things to Know Today: July 5

A little information to start your day

1. Weather: It’s a beautiful follow-up to a beautiful holiday! According to the National Weather Service, today’s going to stay mostly clear with a high of 87. In a Zen twist, a “calm wind” is expected from the west at four to seven miles an hour.

2. In Case You Missed It:  Yesterday was all about the 4th of July, and the Lehigh Valley knows just how to celebrate! Between the fireworks, the events and parades you couldn’t go wrong. Did you see our article about the in Nazareth yesterday?

3. Coming Up: It’s summer for the whole family…but where can you take Fido for a little fun in the sun? We’ve got the list of top dog parks in the Lehigh Valley coming later this morning. Check it out!

5. Today in History: It was an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny…on July 5, 1946 French designer Louis Reard showed the world why two is sometimes better than one with the unveiling of the bikini. The suit, named after the U.S. atomic bomb tests at the Bikini Atoll earlier that week, was so risqué that Reard had to hire exotic dancer Micheline Bernardini to model the suit. The bikini didn’t gain popularity in the United States until the 1960s, when it was helped along with the California surf culture as well as movies and pop songs.
